Day one done and dusted, IBWM is more than ready for day two.
After watching a thoroughly enjoyable little dust up between South Africa and Mexico in the opening game, the France versus Uruguay match was'nt a particularly riveting affair. That said, Uruguay clearly stuck to a game plan and even had time to revert to type in the 81st minute with Nicholas Lodeiro's sending off for a dreadful lunge at Bacary Sagna.
Sums it up
France, for their part were as deviod or ideas as I've ever seen them and never really looked like scoring. Urugay will probably now fancy their chances of escaping group A and at this stage you'd have to see them as favourites to do that. Four teams have shown though and I think it's fair to say we haven't seen the champions yet.
Other things that we know now.
- Vuvuzela's are extremely annoying. If you spent a fortune on surround sound speakers and kit for your telly, the fact that you are going to have 4 weeks thinking there's a bleedin great big wasp in your living room probably serves you right.
- BBC presenters are extremely annoying. Thankfully IBWM is global......but does rely on UK telly for World Cup coverage. Not content with the general smugness of Hansen, Lineker and Shearer, the beeb have (for reasons known only to themselves) added Clarence Seedorf and Emanuelle Adebayor to their rosta. Not sure why. ITV have played it a touch safer with the stereotype brit abroad in sunburnt and constipated looking Adrian Chiles, supported by Andy Townsend and (having picked him up from the BBC) Marcelle Desailly. Gareth Southgate is still in there though and he's an idiot.
